For America and the Cowboys, a Time to Rebuild

With the Dallas Cowboys, the features of the system have done all they can. The future is up to the human element now. The same can be said of America as a polity of unique liberty, one in which certain rights are respected as God-given, and the individual is viewed not as government's science project, but as government's client and judge. The Cowboys, assessing their situation, can take encouragement from all the things on the positive side of their ledger. They don't need everything about their situation changed -- and nor, as American citizens with concerns about our political circumstances, do we. We can start from where we are right now and improve our situation. We probably won't make it to the playoffs this season -- metaphorically speaking -- but we can compile a winning record after the turning point and lay the best possible groundwork for the future. Our system can help or hinder us, but it's not the tiebreaker. We are.
