OWS and the Holy Spirit

Glenn's right. Something's happening. Whatever the long-term outcome of the Occupy movement is, it has already succeeded in getting some important issues on the table.

While most religious folks were arguing about other things, mega-corporations and their political allies in both parties were having a field day, advancing a kind of covert class warfare that has led to staggering wealth and income inequality.

It's taken this surprising movement to get folks to wake up and pay attention.

And Glenn is also right that there is a spiritual dimension to this that too few people understand. (I addressed this spiritual dimension in my book Everything Must Change.) Like Glenn, I hope everyone who reads this will visit an occupy site near them. They'll see lots of problems and rough edges. They won't find a finely-honed script and smooth "program" or "show." But they will see a zone of creative ferment . . . over which the Spirit of God hovers, evoking hope and plotting goodness, and inviting us to participate for the common good.
