John Oliver Explains How LGBT Discrimination is Still a Major Problem at the State Level

On Last Week Tonight, John Oliver spent half the show talking about how, even with marriage equality, there is still a lot of legal discrimination against LGBT people happening at the state level:

That’s why there’s still so much work to be done, even if a major barrier has been overcome. Civil rights can’t exist at the whim of the politician in charge. They have to be enduring, or what good are they? There are too many states where “religious freedom” is just code for anti-gay animus.
