Yesterday, at Arkansas’ Cross Church, Pastor Jeff Crawford explained how women don’t control their own bodies because God owns them:
Pornography is an offense against self… We have bought into what I want to call this morning theological dualism… This is the idea that you can separate what goes on with our bodies from what goes on soul or spirit…
…
This idea that you hear about in the abortion debate that it’s a woman’s right to choose and she has the right over her own body? No, that’s not true!… What we get when you read 1 Corinthians 6 is that your body’s a temple to the Holy Spirit. And what that means is that your arms and your legs and your head and your eyes, it all belongs to God.
By extension, I guess that means when a woman gets impregnated through rape or incest, that’s a gift from God?
And while we’re talking about the Bible, 1 Corinthians 7, the very next chapter, explains how divorce is forbidden. And if she does get a divorce, she cannot get remarried… except to her former husband.
How much would you like to bet there are divorced women in that church, just as there are inevitably women who have had abortions? (Hell, I’m positive that just about all of those church members masturbate, and that, too, is prohibited in the same chapter.)
None of that makes them bad people.
But this is modern-day Christianity for you: They’ll do everything they can to prevent women from obtaining abortions because “The Bible says so,” but they’ll skip all those other bits banning divorce and self-gratification because that’d be inconvenient.
Hypocrites.
