Christian Pastor Steven Anderson spent part of a recent sermon talking about how you shouldn’t marry anyone outside the church.
I might understand that if he said a Christian shouldn’t marry an atheist… but he’s *really* mad about Baptists who marry Roman Catholics.
… You think about those that marry the Roman Catholic, and they think, you know, “Oh well! Close enough!” Wrong! Catholics aren’t Christians. Okay? Catholics do not believe in salvation by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. They follow a Pagan-type religion of idolatry and necromancy and they do not believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ…
… the first baby is born and the Catholic in-laws want to baptize their baby! You’re like, “Whoa! I don’t want to do this!” Well, sorry! We’re gonna baptize your baby… you need to be wise and understand that you’re not gonna have communion and you’re not gonna have fellowship with an unbeliever in marriage, and it’s not gonna work out well at all…
To be fair, if you can’t work out your religious differences before marriage, things may get rough, especially if you have children. Anderson isn’t wrong about that. But it’s almost funny how he has more condemnation for Christians who don’t follow his extremist ideology than for non-Christians in the first place.
