Patheos offers the most extensive information on the internet in the area of religion and spirituality. If you are interested in becoming a contributor, review the guidelines below.
Becoming a Blogger:
Patheos welcomes new bloggers in each of our Channels. We are particularly looking for bloggers who have existing blogs and a strong reader base (5000-10,000 pageviews per month) or an extensive social media platform. Bloggers are asked to commit to at least one year of participation at Patheos with at least one to two blogs per week. If you meet these criteria, send your inquiry to the editors, specifying the Channel your blog would best fit.
Submitting a Single Article:
Patheos accepts well-considered and well-written guest articles on current events and developments in religion and spirituality. Articles should be between 800-1000 words. We do not pay for these articles. We will not consider articles that have already been published, in any form, in print or online. Submit your article idea, along with your bio, to firstname.lastname@example.org. Because we have a strong team of regular Patheos bloggers, we often have most angles on a story represented, and thus may have to pass on worthy material unless you have a unique connection or insight. If you do not hear from us within five business days, please assume that we will not be able to use your article.
Publishing with Patheos Press:
Patheos publishes a select number of ebooks and print books each year. We welcome inquiries from authors who have a strong media presence and/or an academic platform. Do not submit unsolicited manuscripts. If you have a manuscript idea, please send an inquiry that includes:
- a brief description of the project, including the ways this book contributes uniquely to the current material on the topic
- your marketing platform, publications, social networks
- an author bio, explaining why you are the best person to address this topic
- a working Table of Contents
- an approximate word count
- the Introduction and/or first chapter
Writing for Library Resources:
The Patheos Library is one of the best online sources of reliable information on religion. It currently has nearly thirty fully developed traditions, including material on each religion’s Origins, Historical Development, Beliefs, Rituals and Worship, and Ethics and Community Life. If you are interested in writing further resource material on one of these religions, or on one of the religious traditions that is still incomplete, please contact Patheos editors with an inquiry. Contributors must be academically qualified in the field of that religious tradition (Ph.D. preferred) and must be willing to have his or her material peer-reviewed. Unsolicited material is not accepted.
Participating in the Public Square:
In the Public Square, Patheos offers a monthly site-wide Conversation regarding select topics pertinent to all faith traditions. If you are interested in writing for upcoming topics, please send an inquiry to Patheos editors.
