In Praise of a Proper Partisanship

The moral meaning of law, and how much Christians should be involved in it through partisan politics, are things it takes a lifetime to develop wisdom about. Law is not just a product of our passing indignations; it has to be enforceable and meaningful, while respecting the limits on power that our civilization has learned to see as necessary. The process of politics is a sometimes-hilarious, always imperfect means of directing law and government. The whole thing is managed by a bunch of deeply flawed humans—a condition there is no hope of altering. Yet law and government can deny us freedom, resources, and even life; ignoring them is not an option.

In the end, what is funny is the idea that we're competent to condemn what our elders have done about all this when we are 20 years old.
