Me and My Dad and the Tree of Life

"Huh," I said, my eyes drawn back to the High Priestess.

"What?"

"What you said about the Magician. How he's bringing the spirit down to the level of matter . . . Linking Kether to Binah. But then that means the High Priestess is doing the same thing between Kether and Tiphereth. Bridging the abyss between pure spirit and humanity when we're at our best." I stared at the path linking the iridescent white of the top sphere and the golden sphere at the center of the Tree. "It's beautiful, really."

"Of course it is," said my dad. "Of course it is."

I lay there for a moment with the warm cell-phone to my ear.

"Should I get some chicken strips?" he said.

"You're just going to give them to the dog," I said.

These are the kinds of conversations I have with my father.
