It’s a little after 2:00 p.m. and it’s another big housecleaning day, because we’re supposed to get inspected, and I’m SO not ready. But we have some maintenance issues, and I need to be able to invite the manager into the kitchen. So that may be all for today, unless I’m able to get back to this after hours tonight, because if she doesn’t come this afternoon, she won’t come until Monday. Hope springs eternal. Read more

I remember reading Wicked (Gregory Maguire, Regan Books, 1995) when it first came out and loving it! I mean, really loving it. I always liked Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz as well as the MGM film version, even if they were not that much alike. It’s probably one of the very few instances where I like a both the book and the movie, equally. What I enjoyed about Maguire’s treatment of the story is how he made the film... Read more

Honestly, with a title of Happy Songs (Audra McDonald, Nonesuch, 2002), this is the album for me. And the lyrics for the song “More Than You Know” are just perfect for today More Than You Know (Vincent Youmans/Billy Rose & Edward Eliscue) Whether you are here or yonder Whether you are false or true Whether you remain or wander I’m growing fonder of you Even though your friends forsake you Even though you don’t succeed Wouldn’t I be glad to... Read more

Oh my God! You know it’s bad when a former date becomes a minister. He was a scary date, but he’s much scarier behind the pulpit. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5397486469057148939 Read more

Wow, what can I say? Twenty-four years ago tomorrow at 9:20 p.m. was the day my life changed forever—but I didn’t realize it at the time. This picture shows where it happened: B. Dalton Bookseller, Southtown Mall, Fort Wayne, Indiana. I was working at the time at the Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio, and this bookstore was where my own personal bookseller, Roger, worked (sort of like a personal shopper, but much better). It was after the mall closed at 9:00 p.m.... Read more

I actually did this a while ago, when I was surfing around and, well, you know, wasting time. But it did make me laugh. The website is over on the Blog Surfer link section. Believe me, most of the graphs submitted are hilarious. Read more

Okay, no matter what I prefer, I absolutely MUST clean the house today. No more dawdling, and no more excuses. I have a ton of things to do besides that too, but I’ll never get them done if I don’t do more cleaning. The house is just too messy to do anything else. Read more

It’s now almost 1:30 p.m., and it’s time to begin the big housecleaning push. I’ve decided to begin doing the Flylady thing again, because I think it’s the only way I can keep up. But I still mix in a healthy dose of Sidetracked Home Executives. I think I first realized I have ADD when I came across a website that talked about how having trouble keeping your house clean could be a sign of Attention Deficit Disorder. For those of... Read more
