Yep. My mom regularly blogs and writes articles as a travel writer here. But she also wrote a very interesting book on being a missionary. It is full of Pearsonality (see what I did there?) as only she can tell it.
It’s called Telling it on the Mountain: 52 Days in the Life of an Improbable Missionary.
One of the favorite things my momma likes to do is “tell it.” It may be good. It may be bad. It may matter. It may not. But one thing she’s gonna do is “tell it.” I promise you that.
My parents were missionaries in Ecuador in the early 2000’s. This book highlights stories and lessons learned along the way.
One of my favorite chapters is titled “Being Loved Unconditionally” (16). Here is how she starts:
Maybe it’s because I am a firstborn child. Maybe it’s because I always wanted to make straight A’s and was never satisfied with a B. Maybe it’s because I’m a musician who is always trying to “play it better.” Or, maybe it’s simply because the idea of God loving me unconditionally is utterly amazing. Whatever the root cause may be, I have spent many years trying to earn God’s love rather than just accepting it. That could even be one of the reasons I am not in Ecuador as a missionary.
I guess I thought just accepting Jesus as my Savior wasn’t enough. . . or going to a Christian college. . . or marrying a godly man. . . or being very active in church. . . or participating in mission trips. . . .
You may feel called to the mission field. You may not. You may have “been there and done that” already. Either way, I promise you will be entertained throughout the book. “Boring” is not in my momma’s dictionary.
As with the post about my sister’s book, I get no royalties from this. But Thanksgiving and Christmas will be more pleasant if you download or buy a copy here.
