You Saw Me

You Saw Me October 19, 2018

O Lord, you see me and you know me,

You saw me when I was up at three this morning,

When my mind race with possibilities, when I couldn’t pinpoint the problem, when I wondered if the darkness would ever go away.

O Lord, you see me and you know me,

You saw me when the destruction was tangible yesterday,

When hurt splayed itself around the room, when anger scribbled across the page, when “I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know” echoed in the hallways.

O Lord, you see me and you know me,

You saw me when tears trailed down my cheeks,

When I wanted to take away the pain, when my love couldn’t erase the sadness, when I cursed at you and begged for you in a single breath.

O Lord, you see me and you know me,

You saw me when my fists pummeled for justice,

When I wished I could take away the loneliness, when I begged for courage, when I felt abandoned, discarded, thrown out like yesterday’s news.

O Lord, you see me and you know me,

You saw me when I first heard the truth,

When I hoped to you it wasn’t true, when I put one foot in front of another and walk through the days ahead, when you heal our hearts, one breath at a time.

For this we pray, on you we beg.

Amen.
