Another look at Tim Kaine’s hope for a welcoming and affirming Catholicism

Another look at Tim Kaine’s hope for a welcoming and affirming Catholicism September 15, 2016

Courtesy of The American Catholic.  The takeaway here is that most attempts to compromise Christianity with modern, secular progressive ideals has resulted in declining membership, attendance and involvement.   I won’t say in every case, but the majority of Protestant traditions that attempted the compromise have seen plummeting memberships.   I was friends with a UCC pastor who admitted (this being around 2005) that the UCC likely wouldn’t exist in another generation.  Whether they are worried about such things or not, I don’t know.

The fact remains that, on the whole, adherence to modern, secular and progressive ideals does not seem to fuel widespread devotion to the traditional Christian faith, often times leaving empty pews, empty sanctuaries, and empty ministries in its wake.  Which is why the idea that the Church will be jettisoning left and right its traditional teachings to keep up with the progressive Joneses is not as likely as some might think.  Or, in the case of Mr. Kaine, hope.
