I’m OK with that. First, because of family ties, I follow the Cleveland Browns. That means I have nothing to lose. Second, as I’ve said before, the millionaires can do on the field what they want. That’s their right. Fans and others can disagree and act accordingly. That’s their right. And as the NCAA has made clear, there is nothing more noble than boycotting for a cause.
We were covering the events leading up to the Declaration of Independence in the boys’ Government class. Being a classical curriculum, the emphasis is on reading primary sources, not textbooks that are here to interpret the correct lessons the boys should learn. They were struck by just how passionate those leaders were, and just how much was at risk. Those guys were willing die for their principles. So if our Founding Fathers were willing to go to the gallows for what they believed, I’m sure the brave protesters at the NFL can handle a drop or two in the ratings.
