Pope Francis suggests listening

Pope Francis suggests listening April 6, 2017

When it comes to dialogue with Muslims.  I’m OK with that, as long as they listen to us.  I’m fine with dialogue between faiths, or with non-faiths.   Trying to hear what the other means can never hurt.  And given the issues in the world today, hearing what Muslims have to say seems a wise move.  Again, as long as they hear what we have to say.

As I’ve said before, I chalk it up to sports.  You get out there and play the other team.  You want good sportsmanship.  You want a good, clean game.  You don’t want cheating.  You don’t want injuries on either side.   You shake hands and wish them the best.

But at the end of the day, you don’t want the other side to win either.  And unless you’re quite foolish, you know the other side doesn’t want you to win.  They want to win.

If we go into dialogue with that understanding, then I doubt there’s anything wrong can come of it.  If we’re real and honest about the desired ends.
