One reason I love The American Catholic is because Donald McClarey is able to mix a healthy love of country with a willingness to admit its failings. In this case, he gives quite a few tributes to a generation that showed its sins don’t have to define it, that through greatness of sacrifice and struggle, you can do greater things than focus on yourself. For our generation, it could be worth remembering, if for no other reason than to thank all those who came before us for the sacrifices and struggles.
