When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him (Isaiah 59:19B)..

Floods Come

One of the great benefits of our relationship with God is that He speaks to each one of us personally through His word in moments of need. I was reminded just a few days ago about how effective the word can be in trouble when terrible storms and deadly floods hit our area. Many in their loss are still seeking a word of peace.

Being in the path of very real danger brought back the memory of living in Alabama with young children. During tornado season, we would often hear the sirens and have to take shelter. It became our way to “dial up” God on Psalm 91. We read it together inserting our names instead of the pronouns. Let me suggest that this can be a great comfort in time of peril. You can do it, too. Here you go:

A Word for When Floods Come

Psalm 91 for ME

Fill in the blanks with your name!

________ dwells in the shelter of the Most High and will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  ________ will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Surely God will save ________ from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover ________ with His feathers, and under His wings, ________ will find refuge; His faithfulness will be ________’s shield and rampart.

________ will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at ________’s side, ten thousand at ________’s right hand, but it will not come near ________.   ________ will only observe with [his/her] eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.

If ________ says, “The Lord is my refuge,” and ________ makes the Most High [his/her] dwelling, no harm will overtake ________, no disaster will come near ________’s tent. For God will command His angels concerning ________ to guard ________ in all [his/her] ways; they will lift ________ up in their hands, so that ________ will not strike [his/her] foot against a stone. ________ will tread on the lion and the cobra; ________ will trample the great lion and the serpent.

“Because ________ loves Me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue ________; I will protect ________, for ________ acknowledges My name. ________ will call on Me, and I will answer _______;  I will be with ________ in trouble, I will deliver ________ and honor ________. With long life I will satisfy ________ and show ________ My salvation.”

Amen!

There is real power, comfort, and peace in hearing your name in the Word of God! Whether you are in a literal flood or a metaphorical one, try it. Those words were written to you!

God bless you, protect you, and give you peace.
