INNER CIRCLE: Drink From My Mouth

INNER CIRCLE: Drink From My Mouth

Saying 108

Jesus said, “He who drinks from my mouth will become like me, and I will become like him, and the hidden things will be revealed to him.”

Drinking from the mouth of Jesus is to be understood as a metaphor for internalizing the words Jesus speaks to us here in this Gospel. Doing so will allow us to become like Jesus: one who is awakened to the reality of the Universe as one divine whole that is grounded in Godself.

When this awareness fully permeates our being, we will begin to see and understand the “hidden things.”

But these are not secrets that are being kept from us. They are truths that, like the Kingdom of God, is within us and all around us.

What’s needed is a paradigm shift in the way we see and understand reality. Once this new perspective begins to rewire our brains, we become aware of our Oneness with God.

This, in turn, allows us to see our connection with others, and the universe itself. We realize that there is nothing but God, and manifestations of God, everywhere we look. God is the One in whom we all live and move and have our being.

We are the Ones in whom God lives, and moves, and has being.

There is no part of God that is not part of us, and not part of us that is not part of God, and no part of you that is not part of me.

The breadth and scope of the “metanoia” reality that Jesus wants to show us goes beyond anything we could have dreamed of or imagined prior to hearing these words.

The transformation process Jesus sets in motion doesn’t end with our awareness, or even with our acceptance of this Divine Unity. It continues on to transform every part of us – both spiritually and physically – until we are like Jesus.

This means that we can do the things Jesus did, and even greater things, including the sharing of this Kingdom reality with those around us who are hungry and thirsty for the Truth.

This reality is what all of humanity is longing for, even if they don’t know it yet. The answer to mankind’s greatest problems – war, poverty, tribalism, greed, racism, nationalism, etc. – is found in this awareness of our Oneness with God, and our Oneness with each other.

Until we can all have eyes to see and ears to hear this truth that Jesus speaks to us, we will never find a way to love our neighbor as ourselves, or love our enemies, or share our abundance with those in poverty, or beat our swords into garden tools and resolve to study war no more.

The one true hope for humanity is to awaken to our Oneness.

To look at the other person and see, not only ourselves but the very face of God.
