INNER CIRCLE: Resurrection Life

INNER CIRCLE: Resurrection Life

“What is his flesh? His flesh is the Word [Logos], and his blood is the Holy Spirit [Pneuma]. Whoever receives these has food, drink, and clothing.

“Some say there is no resurrection. For those who say, “There is no resurrection,” tell me what will arise? They say, “The Spirit [pneuma] animates the flesh, and the Logos is also in the flesh.” Whatever we say, we say it in the body. Nothing can be said apart from this body. So, we must awaken while we are in this body, for everything exists in it. We all resurrect in this life, first.” (The Gospel of Philip vs 23b)

The body of Christ is the Logos. What animates his body is the Spirit. When we eat of the body [the Logos] of Christ, we have his life in us. When we drink of his Spirit, we are made alive. We are clothed with the Logos and filled with the Spirit. Our outside is Christ and our inside is Christ. This is who we are.

This is not to say that there are some who have the Logos within them and some who do not. This is impossible. Because we know that Christ is all and is in all. There is no one who does not live and move and have their being in the Logos of Christ. If we are alive, we are animated by the Spirit of Christ. Our breath [pneuma] is the breath of God. The very same breath that God breathed into the nostrils of the first human on the day of Creation is in your lungs now, and in mine. We all share this birthright. We all inhale the Pneuma and exhale the Logos of God. This is what it means to live and to move and to have our being in Christ.

This same Christ lives and moves and has being in all of us. There is no separation. The Christ is all of us, living and moving and having our being in one another.

For those who doubt the resurrection, the author of this Gospel does not dispute that our mortal flesh will not return to life again, but they ask us to consider what does not perish. The Spirit of Christ is eternal. The Logos of Christ does not – and cannot ever – perish.

So, if we are filled with Christ’s Spirit and clothed with Christ’s Logos, then our body – the Body of Christ – cannot ever experience death. Immortality will pass through the veil like a mist, untouched by mortality.

As the Apostle Paul phrased it:

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” [Galatians 2:20]

”And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.” [Ephesians 1:22-23, emphasis added]

Your whole self ruled by the flesh was put off when you were circumcised by Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead….Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.” [Colossians 2:11-12; 3:1, emphasis added]

The point is, there are some bodies that die and some bodies that do not. For now, we inhabit both bodies: the body of flesh and the body of Christ. The part of us that is alive, now, in the Body of Christ – the Pneuma and the Logos of Christ – cannot die.

This means that part of us – the eternal part of us that is united with Christ – has already entered into and continually partakes in the resurrection life of Christ. This is how we experience the resurrection life of Christ, by abiding in Christ and resting in our Oneness with the Logos and the Pneuma of God.
