Some time ago I was visiting the 2nd grade class at the school and a few minutes before dismissal the tornado siren began sounding. The weather had been bad all day and from the expression on the teacher’s face, I quickly realized this was not a tornado drill.
All the kids were led into the hallway and the younger ones began to cry. A teacher began praying the Hail Mary out loud over and over again and some kids joined her. I approached a little girl who was crying and told her to be calm, that everything would be OK. I told her there was nothing to do, that we just had to be patient and wait. The little girl looked at me and said, “Father, we could pray.”
