Read more

Last week I sat for some time facing the Atlantic Ocean during a frigid, windy morning.  My ears were filled with the crackling of dry plants behind me, the crashing of white-topped waves and the gentle howling of the wind.  I was cold. The sunlight glistened over the ocean water creating a beautiful path joining the shore to the horizon which lay before me uninterrupted except for a cargo ship departing from the port of Savannah.  The horizon stretched out... Read more

A Homily for the Feast of the Epiphany and National Migration Week Starting today, the feast of the Epiphany, the Church in the United States celebrates National Migration Week.  Is it a coincidence?  Hardly. Magi from the east came to offer gifts to Jesus, the King of the Jews, and to adore him.  These men, foreigners, strangers, recognized something in the child that his own people did not recognize.  What did these men recognize? The gold offered shows the foreigners... Read more

A very happy and blessed new year to all of you my readers!  We survived the 2012 Maya apocalypse! When I began blogging a few years ago, I did so very skeptically.  I thought blogs were mostly for people to aggrandize themselves in cyberspace, but I figured I would post my homilies and articles.  I was already typing these out, so I figured I might as well share them. I quickly realized that blogging was an excellent evangelization tool.  I discovered... Read more

As we continue to join in with the whole Church in the celebration of Christmas, today we pause to meditate on an amazing truth: that when Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary, God chose to come to us through a family.  He chose to live as part of a family, as the son of Mary and Joseph, quietly and obediently working in Nazareth. The Church invites us today on the feast of the Holy Family to meditate upon the... Read more

Read more

Shrine where Jesus was born, Bethlehem   Christmas Day Homily Today we pause along with the whole Church to recognize that Jesus Christ is not just one more teacher among great teachers. That he is not just one more prophet among great prophets. The little boy born in a stable in Bethlehem 2000 years ago is God made man. When we contemplate the newborn child, we behold the face of God. The invisible God of the Old Testament of whom... Read more

Read more

Read more

About 500 faithful gathered at Saint Teresa of Avila, Grovetown, on Tuesday night to await the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe and to sing the traditional Mañanitas.  A Rosary began to be prayed at 10pm followed by traditional Aztec dancers (watch brief video below).  Mass began at 11pm and ended shortly after midnight.  Atole and tamales were served after Mass for all to share some time together. //www.youtube.com/get_player       Father John Johnson and me singing Las Mañanitas after... Read more
