Read more

When speaking of faith, a passage from the Gospel of Matthew always comes to my mind.  When at Caesarea Philippi Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” to which the apostle Peter responded, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”  Jesus’ response reveals the nature of faith: “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.” Peter’s profession of faith which... Read more

Read more

A few years ago I heard a story that went like this: When a young girl turned 12 years old, her dad gave her a beautiful gift, a pearl necklace. These pears weren’t real ones though, they were cheap imitation pearls. The young girl loved the gift so much she would put on the necklace every single night before going to bed, so when her dad came by to say goodnight, she always looked like a princess. This continued for... Read more

Over two hundred gathered tonight at Saint Teresa of Avila in Grovetown for the first regularly scheduled Mass in Spanish at the parish. Though several of those present were current parishioners at Saint Joseph in Augusta, well over half of those in attendance were Saint Teresa parishioners or Catholics who had not been attending Mass.  There was a joyful atmosphere and people were grateful for the opportunity to pray in their native language. Blessing an anonymously donated statue of Our... Read more

I have never had to beg for food.  Life has never placed me in the shoes of Bartimaeus, having to beg for my livelihood. Some here today at this Mass perhaps have had to beg for food or drink, I do not know.  Maybe some of you have experienced first-hand the plight of Bartimaeus. In my home country there are beggars everywhere: at church doors, at red lights, at markets, and parking lots.  The beggars are old men who can... Read more

Read more

Imagine that after hearing the doorbell ring, you find a giggling child at your door saying you won one million dollars.  You would probably tell the child not to lie and shut the door.  What if instead of a child, you would have found the mayor of your town with a television crew saying you won one million dollars.  You would now believe.  You would not trust the child, but you would trust the mayor. There is an enormous difference... Read more
