If you are a tarot or numerology enthusiast, you may have already looked into the numerological value and meaning of 2024. If you are interested, at the beginning of each year you can find out what your personal tarot card for the new year is and what the tarot card for the year itself is. These are fun exercises you can do to learn more about what to expect from the upcoming year.

If you decide to find both your personal tarot card for the year and the tarot card for the year itself, they can work together to give insight on what to expect from the year, and how it may personally affect you and what you could do about it. I recently wrote a column about finding your personal tarot card for the year which you can take a look at here.

How to Find the Card for the Year

To find the tarot card that represents 2024, we are only going to focus on the major arcana portion of the tarot deck. Although there are 22 cards, they are numbered 0-21. When you do the math to get the number correspondence for the card, you will want a number between 1 and 22. It is impossible to get a 0 when you are adding numerical values higher than 0 together. To compensate for not being able to have 0 as a number, if your final number is 22, then that means The Fool card, card number 0, is the card for the year.

We are going to add the individual numbers of the year together to get a total number. This year is 2024. We will add 2 + 0 + 2 + 4 = 8. That gives us 8 as the numerology number for the year and tells us which tarot card corresponds to 2024.

Strength is the Card for 2024

In the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot system, the eighth card in the major arcana is the Strength card. The Strength card in tarot typically features a woman and a lion. The symbolism of the woman and the lion is a beautiful combination. The lion on the card is a magical being, king of the jungle and a fierce predator, and yet, it is being constrained by the simple touch of the woman. This shows that the woman has dominion over the lion. The woman here is calm, in control, and disciplined in times of difficulty. The lion is a symbol for our courage, desires, and temper. These are feelings we all have, but we must keep them in check so that they do not lead to our downfall.

Strength is a balance card, much like Temperance. We need to be able to balance and integrate our base, animal desires and drives with our civility and humanity. We have to learn to control our ego and temper our passions with understanding, compassion, and grace for ourselves and others.

Strength in a Tarot Reading

Seeing the Strength card in a tarot reading can indicate that you have the inner strength and fortitude to overcome your current situation. It can represent the fact that you have self-mastery and are staying calm during times of distress, or it can be a call to action and encourage you to bring a more harmonious attitude to your current problems. Compassion is a big part of strength, and not just the tarot card. You can see the compassion of the woman in the card by how gently she interacts with and handles the lion. If you see the Strength card in a tarot reading, it could be talking about your compassion and care for others — especially if you are one to give at your own expense.

What Strength Means for 2024

The tarot card for 2023 was card number 7 of the major arcana, The Chariot. The Chariot is a card that represents success if we can stay focused on our goals and work hard to accomplish them. 2023 helped remind us of what was important, what our goals were, and what we need to do to reach our personal finish lines. The Strength card comes right after The Chariot card to remind us that we are strong enough to do what must be done. It represents that we have the poise and grace and ability to accomplish anything, we just have to be reminded of that at times.

With Strength at the helm, 2024 is likely to be a challenging year. In tarot, the number 8 is about movement. 2024 could be a year that has a lot of moving parts to it. It might feel overwhelming at times. The beautiful maiden on The Strength card reminds us that we are all strong, each of us in our own ways. Don’t be fooled by appearances. No matter what you look like or your perception of yourself, you have the fortitude and inner strength that you need to succeed. That doesn’t mean the journey will be easy though. When difficulties arise, if we persevere and handle things with grace and compassion, we should come out the other side of them just fine.

Looking Ahead

Although The Strength card doesn’t sound like a fun ride through 2024, there are always positive aspects of things. The Strength card reminds us that we are strong already. Perhaps we need to cultivate it a little more but it’s there. Just as the woman on the card controls the lion, you too are in control. 2024 is looking to be an important year for the world. Combine the message of The Strength tarot card with this lunar year’s Chinese astrology horoscope and well, things get interesting. All of this points to 2024 being a year of change (hopefully for the better), new beginnings, and dreaming the world into a better future.

I invite you to co-create an amazing 2024 with me. Let us focus on grace for ourselves and each other, and stand strong.
