✝️Lord, I See What’s Happening… and My Knees Are Bowed”

By Dr. Jacquiline Cox | Listen Linda Presents for Patheos

I don’t know about y’all, but my heart is heavy. Every day I wake up, turn on the news, and whisper, “Lord, the Bible is unfolding right before our eyes.” What’s happening across America, in the Middle East, and even right here in our own government isn’t just politics — it’s prophecy. And I truly believe the Church has the power to do something about it.

These days, my prayers sound a lot like, “God, what can I do that makes a difference without putting my family in danger?” Because I’ll be real — I love my country, but I’m concerned. And I love my people, but I’m heartbroken.

 When Headlines Turn Into Heartache

When I saw reports that the U.S. Department of Education was being shut down under Linda McMahon’s direction — and that special-education programs could be gutted or scattered into other agencies — my spirit grieved. Do you know what that means for children with disabilities? For the parents who already fight daily just to get the services their kids deserve?

Then there’s what’s going down in Chicago — my city. ICE raids, military presence, political tension, and neighborhoods caught in the middle because our local leaders don’t agree with the President. And in the middle of that storm, Black and brown families — legal citizens — are being harassed, beaten, and in some cases, killed. Right here on our own soil.

Add to that the threats to voting rights, SNAP, and Medicaid… and it’s clear the attack isn’t just political — it’s spiritual. Because when you start stripping away education, food, healthcare, and the right to vote, you’re not just targeting systems — you’re targeting souls.

 The Church Can’t Stay Silent

Listen Linda — if there was ever a time for the Church to wake up, it’s now.

God didn’t call us to sit on padded pews while the world burns outside the sanctuary doors. He called us to intercede, to act, and to love without fear.

We don’t have to compromise to be compassionate. We can speak truth without losing our covering. We can protect our families while still standing on God’s promises. Because prayer is powerful, but prayer with action is unstoppable.

What We Can Do — Right Now

Here’s how we can move with both faith and wisdom:

  1. Pray like your life depends on it — because it does. Cover our children, our leaders, our schools, and our city.
  2. Educate yourself and your circle. Know what’s happening. Don’t just repost headlines — research, read, and reach out.
  3. Protect the vulnerable. Support special-needs ministries, local food drives, and immigrant-support networks. Be the hands and feet of Jesus.
  4. Use your voice. Call and email your representatives. Tell them you care about special-education funding, healthcare, and equal protection for all citizens.
  5. Stand together. Collaboration beats isolation. The kingdom wins when we unite.
  6. Stay safe but stay active. You don’t have to march on the front lines to make an impact. Even a single act of kindness can echo louder than hate.

Faith Over Fear

We can’t let fear silence us, and we can’t let frustration harden us. We’ve got to keep hope alive — not the kind you hashtag, but the kind you live.

Joel 2:12 reminds us, “Return to Me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping.”

Romans 12:21 tells us, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

So yes — it hurts to watch what’s happening. But maybe, just maybe, this shaking is God’s way of reminding the Church to stand up again.

A Prayer & Poem to God

(From my heart to His.)

Lord… I see what’s happening, and my knees are bowed.

The news is loud, but Your whisper is louder.

Children are crying, families are starving,

And Your Church is still arguing about titles.

Teach us to love louder than we judge.

Remind us that silence is agreement,

And apathy is a luxury the oppressed can’t afford.

Raise up leaders who care more about people than politics.

Protect our babies, Lord — the ones with special needs,

The ones in foster care, the ones hungry for hope.

Let justice roll like mighty waters.

Let mercy flood the streets of Chicago.

Let Your Spirit arrest every spirit of hatred, greed, and violence.

And when it feels like we’re losing the battle,

Remind us — the war is already won.

I bow, but I won’t break.

I cry, but I won’t quit.

Because even in this chaos,

You are still God, and I still believe.

Amen.
