Celebrating Doulas

Celebrating Doulas

This is the last day of World Doula Week. Doulas provide physical, emotional, informational, and spiritual support during reproductive experiences.

Traditionally that’s meant birth, where there’s good evidence that continuous support improves birth experiences and outcomes. But increasingly doulas are providing support for all kinds of reproductive experiences, like miscarriage, abortion, adoption, and the postpartum period.

Doulas often do very practical tasks, like bringing you water to drink, but doula work can also be the priestess work of holding space for an experience.

The 2013 theme for World Doula Week is “Doulas are good for everybody!” So, in celebration of doulas, if you’ve worked with one, as a client or a colleague, wherever, however, whenever, would you share with us: how are doulas good for you?
