Life: A Gift At All Costs?

Life: A Gift At All Costs?

This is a very deep and conflicting area of thought and can refer to several areas of contemplation. For this moment in time I am not directing my comments towards abortions but towards the very aged and the terminally ill. In this modern scientific world we have wrongly become programmed to value life at all costs in preference to death; anyone with even an ounce of sense can see that if all manner of possibilities are considered then it is not a clear cut principle. For the love of humanity ‘quality of life’ must surely be taken into consideration.

We do not let animals suffer, with love we set them free; yet we do not allow terminally ill patients to request an early departure. They are condemned to the endless routine of intensive nursing, with the embarrassment and humility it engenders, not to mention the financial burden, the pain and discomfort.

Once whilst working as a carer in a nursing home for the elderly I was sent on a ‘First Aid’ course where we were all taught the latest CPR techniques. However when I pointed out that I had no intention of pounding the chest of any of the 80 or 90 year old residents to restart their hearts, I was reprimanded and told it was not my decision to make, that I had a duty to pressure life at all costs.

I disagreed. I did not back down. I argued that most of our clients were ‘waiting for God’ and that to bring them back from their release was cruel; I pointed out that most of the elderly and incapacitated wanted to ‘go home’ and continually asking for little else. My argument was that death was a ‘home coming’, the returning of ones spirit unto the Goddess.

My views were valued and accepted to the course tutor, however he must have reported back to the management because shortly afterward I was told my services were no longer required. I went, knowing it had to be so , for the witch once awakened will not compromise her truth.

May you all find your inner witch, heed her and free her, so together we can make this world a better place.

Blessings Eve.
