…More musings on rocks, and why I love them.
This is just an ordinary river rock. I don’t remember where I got it, or for how long I’ve had it. What sets it apart is that when you pick it up, you’re immediately struck by the uncanny smoothness of the entire rock. There are no rough edges. It is also a calming influence.
Ah, pyrite, also commonly known as Fool’s Gold. Isn’t it pretty? I find it has a high vibration for me. This was also part of my original childhood box o’ rocks.
This rock is from a waterfall in Alabama, near Montevallo. A friend from high school took me to his favorite place in the woods, and I found this there. It was part of what looked like a shrine/well on the underside of the shallow cave that was directly underneath the waterfall. This stone had such power thrumming through it that it had to come with me.
I know this is a river rock, and it comes from water. I can’t remember where I got it, although it’s entirely possible I found it at the same above shrine/waterfall. This one, however, is far more calm. I use this as an offering stone for the local land wights. They like shiny copper, so I offer them pennies in the jar the stone is in. When I move locations, I generally bury the penny collection, and start afresh – hence my mostly empty offering jar, since I have recently moved.
This rock I found on a winter hike along a river in Oregon. It was sitting on top of a small pile of intentionally placed rocks. It drew me; something about its shape. Now, this is not a small rock. It weighs about 1 1/2 – 2 pounds. I grew tired of carrying it, and thought many times to put it down. However, I’m so glad I didn’t. This rock probably saved my life. We were hiking atop packed snow, which was melting and freezing periodically. Several times on the hike down, I slipped sideways, and would likely have fallen into the river, many, many feet below (off a cliffside), if not for digging into the packed snow with the point of this rock. The friend I had with me gained a new respect for my habit of carrying “pointless rocks” with me as I hiked…
A rock from the Pacific Coast. Specifically, I believe it’s from Lincoln City. I liked its heart shape. I’m sorry the picture is blurry. I needed an uplifted heart that day, and I found it, in the sand.
