Summer Solstice- Hear the Goddess Talk

Summer Solstice- Hear the Goddess Talk June 5, 2010

This is another suggestion for Family/Coven activities during the Summer Solstice ‘camp’- I call it ‘Hearing the Goddess talk.’

No I do not mean you must have a visitation, not deep meditation or breathing exercise, this is a straight forward ‘hands on’ approach. This activity is inspired through the visiting of many less than spectacular stone circles here in the UK and asking myself “Why build it here?” Many archaeologists will argue the theory of clan demonstrative territory demarcation but others like myself feel assured that if one looks to Nature the answer lies within Her essence, not the futile struggles of humanity. To illustrate, I suggest if you ever have time that you visit the Druid Circle on the lower foothills of Snowdon, for it is a classic example.

The path is unmarked, clear on the map but not upon the mountain, one follows the stone walls and streams, steadily climbing for a good few miles; the weather is almost always cold, and windy, often it rains. Onwards and upwards the footpath eventually rounds the corner of one of Snowdons’s lesser peaks to reveal a modest stone circle perched awkwardly, this is the Druids Circle. The sight is a disappointment, to have walked all that way for this! And the title makes it sound so spectacular. I remember thinking ‘What Druid in his right mind would walk all this way for this!” Even bearing in mind that the stones were moved by hand, and acknowledging the sheer brute strength that would have been required, I was not impressed. Then overheated by the walk I sat a rock for shelter and began to remove my kagul only to find it was almost torn away by the wind; I had to hold onto it for dear life, as it flapped wildly; and all the time it screamed and talked to me. Then for me the secret was revealed. Clearly this bleak and remote, seemingly Goddess forsaken place was the chosen place because the Druids sought Divine communication, and so they found places where She would always speak to those who sought Her.

So another Solstice Weekend activity for the family is to make your own talking device. First as a family try out all suggestions so that the children learn; experiment to see what gives maximum noise.
I respectfully suggest a piece of carpet tubing role that new carpet is supplied on; take about a foot length then attach string through a hole either side in a giant loop of about 9 foot of string; tie and then tie it firmly on and spin it around and around your head, by holding the string and whirling it around and around.
Listen to Her singing, its awesome.
Little exercises like this help us embrace Goddess and feel Her close.

It is also lovely to make a talking tree/bush, decorate with a wind chime or two, and tiny mirrors and tiny ribbons that blow in the wind, maybe even sea shells strung together; it is up to each of you to adapt these ideas to your own life styles.

Have fun, enjoy.
Blessings Eve
