The Congeniality of Muslims and Witches

The Congeniality of Muslims and Witches April 16, 2011

I went to an interfaith event hosted by Muslims and featuring Witches as guest speakers last night, and then stayed up very late chatting with my elders over Vietnamese food. It was great and I have had very, very little sleep.

I will say what impressed me most that in that room full of Muslims, Witches, Christians and Jews there was genuine goodwill, sharing and friendliness. They were awesome people doing really interesting things. I look forward to meeting up with them in the future.

Now I’m going to slink back off to bed for a bit, and leave you with some great music! May you have a lovely weekend!

  • Let’s not overlook the fact that such an event could never take place in any society where Muslims are a majority. It is almost impossible to imagine that it would even be able to take place in any of the countries in Europe where Muslims are a more well established and slightly larger minority than they are in the US.

In Leyton, England, for example, an imam who stated publicly that Darwinian evolution should be accepted as scientifically sound, and that women should not be forced to wear the veil, has been the target of a well-orchestrated intimidation campaign including death threats and disruptions of religious services. After being an imam for 25 years, this man (whose father is the head of the mosque!) was officially forced out for his “un-Islamic” statements. I wonder what the folks in the Muslim community in Leyton would make of Muslims who hang out with Pagans??

I’m glad to hear the folks where you are can model this inclusiveness so well, Star!

Unfortunately, not all do or have; but we can always hold out hope that they will.

You will not meet a nicer man than the imam here in town and you will not meet friendlier people than the Muslim community here. We share many of the same difficulties as they do, which I believe they understand better than any other monotheist I’ve ever met.

Because of the difficulties they’ve had in building their new mosque and community center here in Murfreesboro, I’ve had the opportunity to become friends with several members of the local Muslim community. Through our women’s group that formed from this conflict, we’ve learned that we are far more similar than we are different.

Good luck with your future interfaith endeavors.

Let us not forget that the Koran holds even stricter passages about the killing of Witches and Pagans and Heathens than the Jewish Torah or Christian Old Testament.

Not to mention it is considered a good deed to lie to the “Infidels” and make peace with them, to further the spread of Islam and convert all non-believers.

If one is to beware the gifts of Greeks, then one should certainly beware the Muslims holding hands of friendship and speaking of interfaith equality, for their religion forbids such a thing, and they lie.
