I’m still reading about Iamblichean NeoPlatonism, and it’s percolating in the back of my brain. As I’m wrapping mind around these Pagan hierarchies, unities and divisions of the soul, these intricate systems designed to explain our lives and give them direction, I’m surprised to find it a bit devoid of meaning. Most religions insist we don’t belong here. We’re trying to get back to where we came from. Redeem our fallen state or liberate ourselves from the illusions of the... Read more

I turn 30 tomorrow. Not particularly thrilled about it. Everyone wants their birthday to be a little bit special, even if it just means getting a cookie with your lunch. I honestly didn’t want to sleep alone on my birthday. While I could have made plans for sexytime, I’m instead pet-sitting for a friend. In a way, that’s better.   At night Reuben wriggles under the blankets and curls up at my waist. Willow leaps atop the bed and settles... Read more

I just realized that I may be without internet until Monday while I do some pet-sitting. So in case I’m offline: Have a great weekend and don’t forget to dance! Read more

I don’t sleep well quite often. I try so hard to sleep a full 8 hours straight. If I wake up after only a few hours I stubbornly cling to my pillow. I expend more energy trying to get good sleep than sleeping naturally. The truth is I feel better sleeping only 3-6 hours at a time, twice a day. But I’ve always considered that sort of shameful, a “couldn’t sleep so I need a nap” type of occurrence. Yet... Read more

Tempers are flaring and emotions are running high across the Pagan interwebs today. If you don’t why, you’ve likely either been under a rock, or, unlike me, have a life that doesn’t require a WiFi connection. One of the gifts of such a wildfire raging through our community is the insight it gives us into each other. Healthy, happy people can get along fine sipping sweet tea on a sunny day, but when you’re angry, hurt and confused then your... Read more

I have reluctantly become a fan of The Big Bang Theory. I disliked Sheldon Cooper at first, but he has won me over with his quirky verbage. But if you only need one reason to love The Big Bang Theory, it’s this diagram of Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock: Read more

I was really freaking angry yesterday. I’m still processing my feelings of betrayal and being used over this issue, and angry to see so many people putting their agenda ahead of logic, reason, facts, and other people’s rights. In trying to cool down and start seriously thinking about this whole brouhaha over Z. Budapest’s ritual at PantheaCon, I realized it boiled down to a single issue: freedom of religion. If you deeply believe in menses magic, in celebrating and honoring... Read more

Apparently protests are going on at PantheaCon. T. Thorn Coyle has posted this on her FB page: Gender queers & trans allies at Pantheacon: I will sit in silent meditation outside San Martin/San Simeon at 8:45pm Sunday as counterpoint to “genetic women only” activity starting there at 9pm. All bodies=sacred. Pass it on. There are PNC members on the ground following the story and when they catch their breath they will be reporting the facts. It’s a hectic conference and... Read more

The only thing worse than not attending an awesome event, is seeing all the posts from everyone who is attending on social media. PantheaCon is awesome. It’s like a big diversity fair showcasing the full spectrum of the Pagan community. There are really fantastic classes, presentations, rituals, music and people. While I can’t make it this year, I do look forward to attending next year, and seeing all the amazing people that I only run into on the West Coast. This... Read more

Pagans having two names can have some amusing consequences. How often do you tend to know someone’s mundane name or magical name, but not both? You know who Nightfire is but swear you’ve never met Michael, not knowing they are the same person. I recently had an experience like that. Lord Athanor is one of those elder names I hear a lot when speaking to folks from my tradition. We’ve got a boatload of elders and countless names from the... Read more
