The tree that is beside the running water is fresher and gives more fruit.1

You are the Tabernacle of the Holy Spirit. Your feet are on holy ground for our Lord walks with you, wherever you go! Despite having received the Bread of Life and tasted the choice wine we can still be tempted and indulge in old habits. There is a war for a soul and it is crucial that we fight to hear the voice of our Shepherd and silence the voice of the deceiver.

The word ‘holy’ is a call to be set apart. To look different from what’s in vogue. Think of the salmon swimming upstream, it’s a struggle. The sacraments of the world try to patch up a gushing wound with an infant-size bandaid. Christ is our spiritual physician.

We are not gifted God’s grace so we can evolve into snobs or claim elite status. Do we preserve a dying garden by taking from it? No. We must give, nurture, and replenish. You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored?2 After experiencing the Gardner’s care it’s our duty to point other withering plants to the source of life and renewal.

A fisherman can not will a catch. He must be patient. In the same way, we don’t force others to convert and live by the Gospel standard. Christ draws people to Himself. Like the fish pulled from the depths of the ocean, a soul is freed from the abyss of darkness by the efforts of Yeshua.

Have you ever seen videos of deep-sea fishermen? It’s a battle to secure a catch and takes a toll on the individual. We can only overcome the world by the strength of the Spirit. If we seek the Kingdom without the King, the cross will crush us and we will not be able to carry it by our willpower alone.

We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 3
