In an age of helicopter moms and over-scheduled kids, Mark Osborne’s screen adaptation of the classic 1943 French novella, Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, has one stirring message: Let the starlight within come out to play.

This is an endearing and compelling feature length animated film that plumbs us into the sterile world of a ‘Little Girl’ who is learning to be a grown-up from an overwrought, uptight, and perfectionist mom. She diligently conforms to her rigorous regime until an eccentric neighbor known as the ‘Aviator’ explodes into her perfect little world, tearing it asunder with a universe of possibilities. Check out the trailer here.

What the heart sees

The film takes us on a rollicking series of adventures the girl, her companion, ‘The Fox’ and The Little Prince (in the guise of a chimney sweep), embark on. Revealing as they go what has the power to cut through the grim, mechanistic, and brutalist world of the 21st century . .

“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”
― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince
