Ever get the idea that you are just a cog in the wheels of some uncaring, unfeeling machine? Even if you are an educator, a researcher or a journalist do you ever sense that all your understanding, your wisdom or your knowledge is discounted, cast aside made to seem unimportant.
In a chapter in Scientology: A New Slant on Life L. Ron Hubbard wrote:
“A workman is not just a workman. A laborer is not just a laborer. An office worker is not just an office worker. They are living, breathing, important pillars on which the entire structure of our civilization is erected. They are not the cogs in a mighty machine. They are the machine itself.”
When I first began my spiritual journey this lifetime I was more than discouraged with my work and less than hopeful about my future. This quote by LRH held out a hope to me that life didn’t have to be an economic slavery but maybe there was something I could learn that would make “having to make a living” into something I could do with pleasure and pride.
I have found that each new aspect of Scientology that I have learned over the past many years has given me a new tool with which to confront and handle my work, making it not something I “have to do” but rather a challenging, fascinating and rewarding endeavor.
