How does Dianetics relate to Scientology?

Dianetics is a spiritual healing technology that can help alleviate unwanted sensations and emotions, irrational fears and psychosomatic illnesses (illness caused or aggravated by mental stress).

Dianetics is derived from the Greek words dia, meaning through, and nous, mind or soul. The full definition of Dianetics is what the mind (or soul) is doing to the body.

L. Ron Hubbard’s Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health was published May 9, 1950.  It has appeared on 600 bestseller lists and is now translated in 50 languages with 22 million copies sold.

Before Dianetics, prevailing scientific thought held that Man’s mind was his brain, nothing more than a collection of cells and neurons.  IQ and personality were considered fixed and unchanging.  With Dianetics, IQ and personality could be improved.  Its effectiveness has been documented in a multitude of case histories over more than half a century of application.

The Scientology religion was founded by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. The first Church of Scientology was formed by Scientologists in Los Angeles in 1954. Today the religion spans the globe with more than 9,000 Churches, Missions and affiliated groups in 165 countries.

The word Scientology is taken from the Latin word scio, which means “knowing in the fullest meaning of the word,” and the Greek word logos, meaning “study of.” It literally means “knowing how to know.”

He is basically good, and his spiritual salvation depends upon himself and his fellows and his attainment of brotherhood with the universe.
