Breaux Bridge, Louisiana (June 1, 2025) – Red Bird Ministries, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families grieving the loss of a child, is launching our newest initiative, “Remember”.
“Remember” is an authentically Catholic grief-support program tailored to comfort those facing the shock, devastation, and crushing burden of suicide. Remember covers a number of topics: general and suicide-specific grief, understanding the struggles of the loved one who has passed, applicable Church teachings, and Ignatian prayer exercises that are meant to assist participants in healing.
Developed by Sr. Kathryn Maney, M.S. & Dr. Matthew Breuninger, Remember is an authentically Catholic, 12-session program for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one to suicide. Special thanks to guest contributors: Very Reverend Chris Alar, MIC, Rev. Andrew Heaslip, STL, Dr. Regina Boerio, Dr. Gregory Bottaro, Tom Korta, and Dr. Sean Stevens.
In order to facilitate the Remember program, Red Bird Ministries requires that facilitators have personal experience with loss to suicide, complete the 12-week program as a participant, undergo our Remember Leader Training, and obtain a letter of recommendation from their pastor. If a leader currently leads suicide survivor groups, holds a professional degree, or is trauma certified, Red Bird Ministries will consider exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
Last year, Red Bird Ministries hosted two 12-week pilot groups of Remember. Pilot participants shared, “This ‘Remember’ group was absolutely the best grief support I have encountered and participated in. I can’t think of anything to add or delete. The content, format, and facilitators were superb! This was a great blessing to me and the other participants. I am so grateful for Red Bird Ministries. I appreciated the spiritual as well as the educational and sharing aspects.”
Families of suicide loss now have a safe haven and community platform to connect with families going through similar situations.
