As my previous post might indicate, I really like Touchstone magazine. And, I should add, I am all for “Evangelicals and Catholics Together.” So, what follows is meant in charitable fun.
The current issue of Touchstone includes a six-player symposium, “Evangelicals Today: Six Evangelicals Assess Their Movement.” One of the questions discussed is “what would you say to an Evangelical tempted to become Catholic or Orthodox?” (“Tempted”?). And, one contributor states — meaning well, I’m sure: “I have great admiration for both the Roman Catholic and the Orthodox traditions. They are vital parts of the Body of Christ, worthy of honor and respect as co-laborers with Evangelical Protestants in the ministry of the gospel.”
Co-laborers . . . Phew! Beats “whores of Babylon.” That “said”, I couldn’t help thinking that this statement had the flavor of Will Perdue (no, that’s not fair; maybe John Paxon) saying “Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen are worthy of honor and respect as vital co-laborers with me in winning national championships.”
I kid! I kid! (Insert smiley-face emoticons here.)
