Today in Michigan

Today in Michigan January 15, 2008

There has been a lot of talk of the importance of Romney winning Michigan today.  A second place finish would be a significant loss for Romney today, but he still wouldn’t be out of it.  As I wrote in my post Iowa post and my post New Hampshire post, it is more important for Romney to beat McCain.  For Huckabee fans, I’m afraid there are two tickets out of Michigan.  If Huckabee gets 3rd place as the polls project, he is done.  Whoever finishes in 3rd place in Michigan is done.  Huckabee will not win South Carolina without placing in Michigan.  Presently, McCain leads in South Carolina, but a 3rd place finish for him would remove his electability argument quite quickly, and his poll numbers in South Carolina would start dropping.

By the way, I’m projecting Clinton the winner of today’s Democratic Primary in Michigan.  I wonder if she’ll bother with a victory speech.
