“Good Day For America”

While we wait for the revelation of McCain’s VP pick (with all kinds of rumors being spread and dismissed in quick succession), we should not ignore this positive, and classy, congratulations which McCain gave to Obama for Obama’s big night at the convention:

Please, John. I would be far more encouraged if you keep up a respectful tone like this for the rest of the campaign. One can disagree without spreading mud. One can disagree with respect, as you just showed here!  Nonetheless, listening to your words, I did have one question which came up: if anyone else had said what you said (“truly a good day for America”,”how perfect that your nomination would come on this historic day”), would those words have been used to show how, once again, Obama is being treated as a messianic figure?
