H/T: The Trail Ron Paul’s taking on Mike Huckabee in New Hampshire with a series of negative mailers. The content? Mike Huckabee is a “habitual tax hiker” and Ron Paul is the “taxpayer’s best friend”! Also, notice the strategic picture plan: Ron Paul is posing chummily with Ronald Reagan (despite that Paul called Reagan a “failure”), and Mike Huckabee is next to Bill Clinton, who appears to be advising Huckabee. The subtext is clear. Here’s the mailing: Read more
It appears that the Writers’ Guild of America, which has been striking for better internet residuals for the last two months, has itself been struck. According to the New York Post, the 19 unionized staff members of the WGA’s East Coast branch office are upset about the WGA revising its contract with the workers after negotiation to take out a wage increase. Seeing the story put me in mind of a recent commentary by Rob Long, on the relations between... Read more
I am not a Ron Paul supporter, but I found the following a bit suspicious. According to the latest state polls, John McCain is ahead of the Republican pack leading up to the New Hampshire primary with 33% support, followed by Mitt Romney with 27%. Rudy Giuliani and Mike Huckabee sit at a distant third and fourth at 14% and 11%, respectively. Ron Paul’s numbers have steadily increased in New Hampshire, currently holding at 9%. This dualistic way of thought often worked to create various theories of predestination;... Read more
CNN and FoxNews are calling the Wyoming GOP Caucus for Mitt Romney. Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter appear to be heading for second and third, respectively. Hey, Wyoming…despite the anemic media coverage, Vox Nova still loves you! Read more
Part 2.2 What is life? “The new great Idea in which man is beginning to abide is the Idea of life.”[1] Ortega tells us that this new idea had its first adumbrations in the philosophical output of Nietzsche and Dilthey, whom Ortega acknowledge as his guides, as well as in the literature of Goethe.[2] These great thinkers marked the beginning of the fin de siècle of modernity; Ortega is the herald of the consequent age. The imperative of this age... Read more
Something tells me there are at least a few places in Toronto that would remove some stars from her eyes (although I haven’t seen them yet), and the part about shoveled sidewalks is a flat out lie (!), but there is a lot of truth in this Common Dreams piece on my current place of residence: How typical is it to go north for a winter vacation unless you are a skier or snowmobiler? Not very typical. Nevertheless, my husband... Read more
