When the Jaredites traveled to the Americas, they brought "with them deseret, which, by interpretation, is a honey bee” (Ether 2:3). Hugh Nibley proposed a possible Egyptian explanation for the origins of this word. Kevin Barney alternatively suggested deseret is connected to the Hebrew word for bee "deborah".
