The Story: When the Mexican dictator Calles shuts down the churches and forbids the Catholic mass, one man takes up a cause that is not his own. General Enrique Gorostieta Velarde (Andy Garcia) does not believe in God, but he does believe others should have the right to worship as they see fit. This is the story of the Cristeros War (1926-1929) in Mexico and the story of believers who were martyred for their beliefs.
