RUTGER HAUER (Father Benjamin Praagh)

Rutger Hauer is an iconic actor who has worked with many world-class filmmakers including Ridley Scott, Christopher Nolan, Phillip Noyce, Lina Wertmüller, Ermanno Olmi, Robert Rodriguez and Paul Verhoeven. His notable credits over the last decade include George Clooney's Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins, Robert Rodriguez's Sin City and the TV miniseries "The Poseidon Adventure." Most recently Hauer was seen in such films as Portable Life, Black Butterflies, the Sundance Film Festival hit Hobo with a Shotgun and The Rite. He also worked with a director he is very fond of, Ermanno Olmi, on Il Villaggio di Cartone (The Cardboard Village). In the summer of 2011 he starred in Dracula 3D for acclaimed international director Dario Argento.

On television, Hauer recently completed an arc on ABC's smash hit "Galavant." Before that he appeared in a crucial role for Seasons 6 and 7 of HBO's "True Blood," starring opposite Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer. During the past couple of years he was involved in a number of European international productions including "The Last Kingdom," for the BBC; Emperor, alongside Adrien Brody; "Francesco," for director Liliana Cavani; and "Flight of the Storks," a miniseries. Other TV credits include "Mata Hari," "Michelangelo – Il cuore e la pietra," "Flight of the Storks," "Metal Hurlant Chronicles" and "The Prince of Motor City." Recent film credits include Drawing Home, Admiral, Real Playing Game, Il Futuro and Agent Ranjid rettet die Welt.

In 2006 he set up the "Rutger Hauer Filmfactory" in the Netherlands, with the purpose of pairing new filmmaking talent with renowned international filmmakers who share their knowledge and experience during workshops. Hauer takes participants on a tour through the creative domain of directors. In 2007 he wrote All Those Moments: Stories of Heroes, Villains, Replicants, and Blade Runners, his long-awaited autobiography. The book was published by Harper Entertainment and all proceeds benefited charity initiatives.

In 2008 Hauer was honored in the Netherlands with the prestigious "Golden Calf" Culture Award, bestowed by the Netherlands Film Festival Foundation to a person or organization bringing important contributions to the film culture. This acknowledged both the Rutger Hauer Filmfactory and the actor's Italy-based I've Seen Films international film festival. I've Seen Films represents a merger of classic film-festival traditions and the most advanced high-definition digital, satellite and Internet technologies. The event aims to promote and unite filmmakers worldwide by affording their works new and long-term exposure through fresh platforms of visibility.
