Gordon Haddon Clark was born in 1902. He studied Calvinist thought from a young age and attended the University of Pennsylvania. There, he earned his bachelor's degree in French. In 1929, he also earned a doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania before attending Sorbonne in 1929. He taught at his alma mater as well as the Reformed Episcopal Seminary in Philadelphia, Wheaton College in Illinois and was chairman of the Philosophy Department at Butler University for nearly 30 years. His theory of knowledge has been called scripturalism.
