Thanks for the nice compliment! There is definitely deep disagreement among experienced government officials in intelligence, the military, law enforcement, and so on about the "effectiveness" of waterboarding and other brutal interrogation techniques. I am on an investigative commission, mainly led by such experienced policy professionals, currently assessing these and other claims. This commission is called the Detainee Treatment Taskforce and is under the auspices of the Constitution Project. Our report, due out in January, will cover this issue among others. I will point readers to that report and my chapter rather than say anymore here.
