What Does God Really Look Like?

It seems like an impossible question. How can we really know?

Is He a Thor-like figure seated on a throne in the clouds, or the carpenter from Nazareth, or an ethereal spiritual mist? Maybe all of those things together?

I've always loved watching a painter paint. There's something very unique that happens when you watch someone create. Pieces of the creator, their style, personality, character, fall into the very thing they are creating. Subconsciously or consciously, it always happens. 

I think that's the way with God. Look around you. Genesis 1:27 states, "So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." Our Creator has laid His fingerprints, his brushstrokes, if you will, all throughout our lives.

So again, look around you. 

The kindness in someone's eyes, or the tender voice of a mother to a child, maybe even something in the way you meet a new person and have that distinct feeling . . . "Have I met you before?" 

Whether it's feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, showing mercy and compassion without the thought of anything in return, I believe we're all connected by that fingerprint. Something in those things makes you feel good and right, but it's more than that. 

It feels familiar. Like home. 

For some of us, it feels like a home we've never even known.

It can be confusing and beautiful at the same time. But I believe we can see glimpses of what God looks like, what His spirit looks like, by looking at the core of the thing He created.
