Creating History in this Moment

For me, responding to demonizing in kind does not serve any purpose but to damage the future of us all. I will remain nonviolent in speech and rhetoric not out of naiveté, but rather an absolute commitment to principles that require me to have clear, clean intentions to be mindful of the harm of the tongue.

Prophet Muhammad said that every act is but its intention. My internal moral compass points me in the direction of remembering that, while different faiths divide us, my own relationship with God has always encouraged me to seek peace.

So I go with God on this journey with open eyes, knowing that we are engaged in making history with my fellow countrymen and women in this moment. At the very least, we can say we attempted to truly know one another and see how we shape our joint future together.

When my 2-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son ask in twenty years was I there at the pivotal moment in Muslim-Christian relations, my actions now will determine what my answer in the future will be. And I want to be able to say yes.

If you are not able to attend this event, let us use it as an inspiration to organize and ignite Muslim-evangelical conversations in local communities around the country.
