100Resolutions and Predictions: Reflections on Isaiah 62:6-12

And Isaiah's resolution leads to his prediction. It is indeed a certain prediction. No need to write it on a scrap of paper; no need to search for it later. It will surely come to pass. "YHWH has proclaimed to the end of the earth: 'Say to daughter Zion, look, your salvation is coming; God's reward is evident and God's wonders lead the way!" Without a doubt YHWH will do for Jerusalem what has been promised. The people of the city will be named again "The Holy People, The Redeemed of YHWH," and the city itself, as we saw above, shall be renamed "Derushah" ("sought out" NRSV), "A City Not Abandoned" (Is. 62:12).

Thus, the resolution leads directly to the prediction. We are called to join YHWH in the rebuilding and renaming of Jerusalem for the sake of the world's future, a future that is more than merely predicted to be full and hopeful and joyful, but a future certain to come into existence, a future that promises justice and righteousness for the world. Now there are some resolutions and predictions worthy of a New Year!
