American Catholics: Intentional or Missing in Action?

The reformers were not primarily focused on their losses but upon engaging the needs of their generation — the early 17th century — out of love, drawing upon the riches of the whole Catholic Tradition, and in the power of the Holy Spirit. "Let us see what love will do" was St. Francis' de Sales' response to huge numbers of Catholics leaving the Church. (De Sales brought 40,000 lapsed Catholics back in four years of direct ministry and then was made bishop of the area that he had personally evangelized!) Widespread communal discipleship birthed a vast spectrum of apostolic creativity whose influence lasted 150 years in France and impacted the global Church. What would God do in our midst if we dared to follow Jesus as disciples and disciple-makers together over the next five years?
