Reclaiming the Narratives: The Structure Behind Homeschooling

For me, the opportunity to get to know Christ through literature has been the best part of our homeschool. For my sister, it was about politics and law; for my other religious and nonreligious homeschool friends, it is different still. To sum up based on my experiences, I think the mechanism behind a successful homeschool is first deciding what constitutes a successful homeschool and working toward that. Secondly, a successful homeschool should be built on the awareness of and courage to analyze new ideas and motives and to incorporate (or discard!) them as wisdom dictates. These two precepts won't always protect parents from making bad choices, but they do provide a sound structure to build a solid school on, based on thoughtfulness and courage. It allows parents to lead the narratives (whether of fear, or politics, or even faith), not be led by them, and to teach their children to do the same.
