A theological argument parses the aforementioned principle in a compelling manner; it does this in two ways. First, Jesus, along with Mary and Joseph, were refugees in Egypt (Matthew 2:19-23), so besides the fact that each human being is the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:27), one can say that refugees are his face here and now (Matthew 25:31-46). What kind of call would this address to us? Secondly, if Jesus' redemptive work has gone beyond justice in all possible ways, particularly toward the poor and marginalized (e.g., Mark 2:13-17; Luke 19:1-10), why would we avoid giving of ourselves and "going the extra mile"? Jesus certainly went the extra mile in the laying down of his life in order to reconcile us with the Father (John 13:1).
