Dr. Daniel Fincke  has his PhD in philosophy from Fordham University and spent 11 years teaching in college classrooms. He wrote his dissertation on Ethics and the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche. On Camels With Hammers, the careful philosophy blog he writes for a popular audience, Dan argues for atheism and develops a humanistic ethical theory he calls “Empowerment Ethics”. (You can learn more about Dan’s online classes here.) Dan is an APPA  (American Philosophical Practitioners Association) certified philosophical counselor who offers philosophical advice services to help people work through the philosophical aspects of their practical problems or to work out their views on philosophical issues. (You can read examples of Dan’s advice here.) Through his blogging, his online teaching, and his philosophical advice services each, Dan specializes in helping people who have recently left a religious tradition work out their constructive answers to questions of ethics, metaphysics, the meaning of life, etc. as part of their process of radical worldview change.

    Yeah, I don’t buy this.
I don’t associate “Food Stamps” with black — in fact, in my world, they are 90% white.

I agree, they are reaching for racism.
I could only the first half of this.

You asked, “Your Thoughts” — there ya go.

  • Sabio Lantz

Still no “follow by e-mail” check box, I see. Again, without it, I won’t go back to check if you respond to my comments. Just a thought.

    • Daniel Fincke

I wish I had an adequate means of alerting readers to follow up comments too, Sabio, I have requested this many times for a year but it has not been worked out yet.

  • Daniel Fincke

Yes, I don’t associate food stamps with blacks either—but I certainly think Newt’s target audience does and I DO associate food stamps with their associating them with blacks.

    I saw that at Dkos.

I live in the country (Northeastern US). Most people who use FS over here are white. While “they” may watch “city” local news and be prejudiced against minorities they rarely come in contact with, when it comes to FS they are not under any illusion.

I don’t know how things are in other rural areas that are more diverse.

To me, this is a class issue, not a “racial” one.

I just happened to look back here to see your comment.
I suggest you switch to WordPres. Just change your blog. Or buy new blog software.
Unfortunately I will not return to comment threads if I am not notified of continued conversations.
Wordpress offers great functions and would look much nicer than this template. If you need help, let me know. Write me on the “contact” tab on my blog.

Good luck, you blog is interesting but I will probably stop following without comment feedback.

I imagine you will loose other readers the same way.

  • Daniel Fincke

I understand that. We switched off of WordPress for many other functionalities that were worth the trade off and I have wanted to recoup some of the lost functionalities but nothing’s been worked out yet.

I’ll keep you in mind and refer my web guy to you if he thinks it will help to be in touch.
